Our Health Navigation service helps former refugees understand and use the New Zealand health system. We guide people through everything from enrolling with a doctor to booking appointments, using interpreters, and knowing when and how to get help.
We also run Health Education sessions. These cover important topics like mental health, family health, long-term illness, and how to take medicine safely. We use clear language and give support in your own language where possible.
Our Health Orientation programme is for people who are new to New Zealand. It explains how the health system works, what to do in an emergency, and how to get everyday care for you and your family.
This programme is led by Huda Alkaff BMBS, MPH.
She works with our experienced health navigators, who are all former refugees and speak seven different languages. Dr Ross Fountain is also part of the team, assisting with clinical advice.
